Tencel and Vancouver Renos

Big news! Our Vancouver shop is getting a makeover! Starting Monday the 19th of October this location will be closed for renovations until (hopefully) we open again by Saturday the 24th. Expect amazing new lighting, wallpaper, paint and general amazing makeoverness! Be sure to come by and check it out once we're open again!
Here in Victoria, the studio has been working diligently to bring you exciting new things to wear for winter time. We trust you have checked out our new winter coat, the Wolfshire and have either already bought one or have put it on your Christmas wish list...right?...Right. Well other great new things we are working on are things like the Calamity Jane dress (which was soo cute and perfect out of bamboo for the summer time) in a more cold weather friendly sort of cute using a really neat fabric called Tencel. Us sewers didn't really have any idea of what this fabric was, so we thought it would be a good idea to do some research. We thought you might like to know as well...

Tencel is a natural, man-made fiber. It is the trade name for the generic fiber Lyocell. (Which has also appeared in some of our other clothing) It's made from the natural cellulose found in wood pulp. The fiber is economical in its use of energy and natural resources, and is fully biodegradable. It breathes, is very durable, comfortable and because of how it's produced it dyes quite well, which allows for great colour choices. It's also really easy to maintain, is wrinkle resistant and dries super fast. It's amazing! Also because of the fiber's natural properties it is quite easy to fibrilate (which is sort of how loopy they make the outside of the fabric) which allows them to make all sorts of different looking fabrics using the same fiber! Pretty nifty. We like this fabric a lot, it's easy to work with, drapes well and feels great on.

So there you go! You know what Tencel is now. Keep your eyes open for the new Calamity Jane dress....available as soon as we can get Trish (who is wearing the sample) out from in front of the mirror and back to the cutting tables.

Feast of Fields

This just came in.  A photo of me and my friend Johnny around noon  a few Sundays ago.  We were at Providence Farm near Duncan for this years Feast of Fields. We had such a great time, the setting was amazing, the weather was perfect, the food great and the wine flowed and the company of good friends.  If you ever have the chance, Go!
P.S. I  love my poolhall dress
